Kachikally Crocodile Pool
Kachikally is a popular tourist site located in the heart of Bakau, The Gambia. For over 40 years, it has been home to various types of crocodiles. This sacred site is also known for its spiritual and social significance. Women who have struggled with fertility have been known to become fertile after performing rituals at this sacred place. Kachikally belongs to the Bojang family of Bakau, one of the founders of the area, who own significant land in the Greater Banjul Area.
Your journey begins with a pickup from your accommodation. Upon arrival at Kachikally, we will start by visiting the Museum of Ethnography, where you can learn about the various tribes, traditions, and lifestyles of the Gambian people. We will then take a mini forest nature walk, leading to the majestic silk tree, locally known as “bantango.” Finally, the highlight of the tour awaits—you will visit the crocodile pool where you can see live crocodiles. If you’re brave enough, you can touch one and even take a photo! Don’t worry, the crocodiles are used to human interaction and are quite calm.
